Alexander Grosman: Sculptor, President and Founder Of Cosmicart Association
“To live without creating is to vegetate”
Characterized by a contagious vitality, Alex Grosman is the closest thing to a human idea-producing machine, busy with projects, events and, of course, sculptures and, most recently, art pieces made from glass. He is faithful to the motto of the Cosmicart Association he founded in Paris several years ago: “To live without creating is to vegetate.”
“Life is rhythm, impulse, passion, art. And art can’t exist without applied will during the execution of a project that may appear in our minds and makes us come out to the light; a verse, a picture, and a sculpture, provide us with a sense of creation.”
From cold Siberia, where he was born, to the Pacific, his background includes several countries and hundreds of masterpieces scattered over several continents. Of Jewish faith, his family was persecuted, migrating to Poland, and then to France, where he developed a large portion of his concepts and his prolific career.
“As a child, I would make sculptures out of any type of material; creating figures was something normal for me. With time, I discovered rocks, or perhaps they found me, I don’t know. Marble, onyx, soon these figures became forms, and these developed into concepts.”
He was recognized in Paris for more than three decades, and his pieces reached the hands of collectors throughout Europe. His exhibits multiplied, being held in several cities and countries, such as Italy and Germany. One day, he became tired of the Old Continent and decided to go to Japan. He later resided in Italy, and it was as if destiny demanded he be in Pietrasanta, the stone sculpture mecca.
“Japan is an oyster; it has to be opened carefully in order to find its pearls. On the other hand, Italy is a place open to life, to sculptures, to friendliness and the good life, because one can’t create without happiness. Creating is an ending in itself.”
His travels brought him to Mexico many years ago, and he drenched himself in Aztec knowledge. His catalogues became full of pieces with pre-Hispanic names and concepts, dedicated to gods and goddesses, traditions and myths.
He arrived in Puerto Vallarta five years ago. Here, he has launched many international projcts, such as the construction of a sculpture park, the 12 Monuments of Tolerance, The Lighted Feather, the Pic awards in PV and the project Hey out there! Not to mention whatever he has created in the last few minutes, since his mind is always open to creativity, and he constantly pays tribute to that.
