With New Year’s Eve looming up ahead, go ahead and use the changing of the calendar to make a resolution. Stick with just one and make it difficult enough to bring you a sense of satisfaction. If it is not challenging then it does not merit a resolution. But make sure it IS doable; unrealistic goals just set you up for failure. Take stock of your physical condition, or bad habits like smoking or drinking, or maybe a weakness for brownies. Anything that you realize has become an unhealthy pattern in your life can become a rewarding and healthy goal to change or reverse the effects of, bringing you a sense of accomplishment, improved health and physical condition, while doing wonders for your self-image and self esteem. And make your resolution public. Go ahead and tell as many people as will listen what you have resolved to do. There, now you can’t back down. Success here will encourage you to give yourself these goals more often throughout the year, along with all the positive benefits of their realization.
New Year’s Eve has come to represents a milestone for everyone, sparking much reflection and either hope or trepidation about the coming year depending on how the past year unfolded. Why not look at New Year’s Eve like a trip to Las Vegas. Whether you report back to friends that you came out ahead or behind, the only thing that really matters is that you had a good time. To quote film director and music producer Baz Lurhman: “We spend WAY too much time worrying about things we have little control over and in the end you are still going to get whacked in the side of the head by something that never entered your worried mind.” Our lives are, after all, half our decisions, and half just plain luck, good or bad, affected by the intersecting decisions of others. To quote another renowned individual, Alfred E Neuman: What? Me worry?
If you experienced misfortune in the past year that was beyond your control, then simply toast to better days. If you had great success, then toast the gods or “The Secret” or the cosmos or wherever your beliefs currently lie. Gratitude is positive energy so why not share it? No matter how you express it, it is good thing. With that in mind, I would like to thank my great team here at Bay Vallarta, and on their behalf, I would like to express our most sincere gratitude to all our loyal readers and to our regular advertisers without whom we could not continue to bring you this publication. Happy New Year to all and the very best in 2009!
