Hola everyone,

Philo here.

Another great night and packed house, with lots and lots of music, all in celebration of Oscars 40th birthday. Thank you everyone for attending and especially the 20 some odd musicians who played. Actually not all the musicians were odd, just some of them. We sure had a good time. And thanks Dinah for the tasty cake.

The Olympics start tomorrow and the first pre-season football game starts on Friday. Stop by Philo's and watch the events on our new 50" high def TV. Should be fun.

Again, for those of you who are remaining here for the summer and wish to vote in the election and need an absentee ballot go to www.VoteFromAbroad.org. Please vote. This maybe the most important election of our life time.

And from Kathleen:

The Friendship Club of La Cruz just received a check for 24,320 pesos for our participation in the Altruism Festival. This payment will be used 100% for purchasing medicine and medical supplies. To all who bought Altruism Festival tickets, thank you for making this possible.

We continue our support for the community with medical payments. Recently, we paid 5,000 pesos for a little girl who needed surgery after a door was closed on her hand, 9,000 pesos for a prosthetic leg for a La Cruz man, and 10,800 pesos for a spinal brace, x-rays and therapy for a 5-year old girl in Bucerias with spina bifida. We also continue to spend over 1,000 pesos a month for medical supplies for a teen-aged boy who was hit by a car last winter and remains partially paralyzed.

All this means that our reserves are getting a little low. If you would like to make a donation, please talk to Philo or me. Those north of the border can make donations through our PayPal account.

Finally, you may have some items no longer of use, but needed in La Cruz/Bucerias:
Used eye glasses (contact me if you plan on bringing back a lot on how to avoid paying duty kdobek@hotmail.com); toys, coloring books, stuffed animals, etc, for Philo's Christmas gift program; used blankets and jackets for Beta Sigma Phi, women's international service sorority.

One final sad note:

La Cruz lost a good friend and neighbor last week with the passing of Gene Cox. Gene was ardent supporter of all good things that are done here at Philo's. We will miss his smiling face. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Gene's lovely wife Gigi.
