Hola everyone,

Philo here,

The weather has been beautiful here. Warm days, cool nights. I love it. Lots of you are already back up North so I'm hoping the weather is getting nice there as well.

I'm looking forward to a relaxing and fun filled summer. I will be leaving for California some time in July and spending 4 to 6 weeks visiting family, playing music in Mendocino and camping in Oregon. I've already begun to make plans for this summer's "Gathering of the Tribe" weekend festival in Mendocino. My Mexican Shuffle Band as well as several other of my friends bands will be joining me. Tentatively set for the first weekend in August at my friend's field of dreams on Albion Ridge Road near Mendocino you can expect lots of music and lots of fun. As the summer rolls out I will be giving you updates on the important things. Where you can stay, where you can camp and how best to get there from where you are, etc. Soooooo......stay tuned folks.

The annual APERCH membership drive will culminate with the Easter Brunch fundraiser at Philo’s on April 12th. and remember...................
Since I now have had Dengue fever THREE times in the almost 9 years that I have been here, I thought this remembrance would be appropriate. This is from Jerry on the sailing vessel Destarte'. Thank you Jerry.

"I worked professionally with dengue viruses and led the Navy's dengue vaccine research program for 3 years. When you get one virus you are protected from all four for a period of time. The duration probably varies but is said to be 3-9 months. It is as the cross protective immunity to the other three serotypes wanes with time that you enter a phase of susceptibility to the severe form of the disease, misnamed dengue hemorrhagic fever."

"Of note, dengue hemorrhagic fever rarely results in hemorrhage but rather a capillary fluid leak syndrom that can be easily and effectively treated with IV fluids or even aggressive oral rehydration."

"It is correct in that you need to be infected with one of the dengue viruses first before you can get dengue hemorrhagoc fever with the second or rarely third attack. However, this would not occur in the first six months after your first attack, hence the safe window to go and not worry about it."

"Most people who have had it say ot is the worst illness they have had in their lives. One desribed it as worse than being blown up by a grenade, and he had been blown up by a grenade!"
