With mixed and uncertain economic news coming out every day, it is great to still see an increasing number of visitors to our city every day, returning like old friends for an annual visit. The cruise ship schedule began early this year and has also brought thousands of welcome visitors to Puerto Vallarta’s shops, restaurants, Malecon, and beaches. With those visitors comes and increased energy and optimism that Puerto Vallarta’s eternal beauty and charm will be, as always, irresistible, despite the economic uncertainties.

More than ever, Puerto Vallarta is not only a breathtaking location to relax and enjoy the sun. Every year brings MORE exciting world class events to engage both residents and visitors a like. Among the annual events in store for us in the coming weeks are: The International Half Marathon and 5k race on November 2. Art Season is back at Puerto Vallarta’s prestigious Art Galleries and shops with their ever popular Wednesday evening Art Walk events featuring exhibiting artists and complimentary glasses of wine throughout this tourist season. Bucerias Art Walk is in its third year with a diverse slate of events including the participation of several restaurants and charity fundraisers. The Festival Gourmet kicks off November 13 with several new culinary events featuring invited chefs of international renown.

The 53rd running of the International Marlin and Sailfish Tournament is November 12 to 15. And if you are a Golf enthusiast, just pick your tournament to attend this month from among the Vallarta Pro Am Cup on November 3 and 4, The Vallarta Golf Cup, November 16 and 17 at the Tom Weiskopf and El Tigre golf courses, and the Grand Prix Mexico 2008 , November 23 to the 29. Then there is the 3rd Annual Puerto Vallarta Bike Week running November 20-23; an annual reunion of motorcycle enthusiasts that includes 2 rock concerts.

And a special cultural note, don’t miss the opportunity to observe Day-of-the-Dead altars in area homes and commercial establishments honoring the beloved late friends and family. It is a deep-rooted and ancient tradition here in Mexico to honor the dead beginning October 31. This three-day tradition includes creating an alter featuring traditional and symbolic elements, as well as photographs and favorite things of the dead, including shots of tequila or cigarettes or favorite sweet treat and culminates November 2 with the extended family, not mourning, but literally spending the day with their late loved ones at the cemetery, sprucing up their tomb, sharing a picnic and even playing live mariachi music. The nearest Cemetery or Pantheon where you can observe this tradition is in Colonia 5 de Deciembre. (See page 74 map B6-M). To our visitors, welcome back, and to everyone, I wish you a fun and exciting November in Puerto Vallarta!
