Luz Aurora Arredondo García
Director of Casa Hogar Máximo Cornejo Quiroz

A foster mother who gives her body and soul for her children”

Simplicity and unlimited love characterize Luz Aurora Arredondo García, a woman with a noble heart born in San Luis de la Paz, Guanajuato. She arrived in Puerto Vallarta 20 years ago and in 2001 joined with the founder of Casa Hogar, caring for children from infancy to age 15.

In June 2005, she was named director of Casa Hogar Máximo Cornejo Quiroz, where her responsibilities extend beyond her desk; she is completely involved in the care, nourishment, hygiene and health of each of the 50 children that reside there.

“I am not one of those people who attend events, nor do I give speeches or try to impress people. I am a working person in direct contact with the needs of the children.”

The main lesson Aurora has received from her work with the foster home is to value family, a fundamental pillar of our society. Her greatest satisfaction is when the children call her “mami” or hug her, kiss her or just give her a smile.

What she likes most about Puerto Vallarta is walking on the Malecon at night; she does not like the disrespectful behavior young people display on the streets. “I think there is an alarming lack of communication and respect in these people. Unfortunately, values are being lost.”

Although she resides at the foster home 24 hours a day, she dedicates her day off to her own children. The activity she enjoys most is going to the beach. And at least once a month, she makes time to take her children to the movies.

Typical Mexican treats such as pozole and enchiladas are Aurora’s favorite dishes. She appreciates instrumental music, as this helps her relax and transports her to a state of peace.

“The most important things I have in life are my biological children, the children at the foster home and, of course, myself, so that I can continue with this lifelong project.”

For Aurora, children are the most marvelous beings in the world, but what she cherishes most are adults that never stop being children, and this is why the world is the way it is.
